“More Than Just A Piece of Meat” Campaign From Hardees is Soft Porn Oxymoron

If anyone doubted the prescience of Idiocracy’s vision of American society, this new commercial and advertsing campaign from Hardees should crown Mike Judge as the new Nostradomus.

In thirty seconds, the spot juxtaposes images of Padma Lakshmi devouring a big greasy burger, with wrist licking, finger sucking, up-skirt shots, cleavage close-ups, and finally the I-can’t-believe-this-isn’t-a-joke tag line: “More than Just a Piece of Meat.

I’ve certainly created my fair share of marketing that crossed the line of polite-society taste, but WTF were they thinking on this one? In my family alone, there are three generations of women who are so irked by the spot that they plan on boycotting the chain forever.

Maybe they hope to give guys an erection when they see a Hardees logo so they’ll feel compelled to drive through for relief. Maybe they should hand out Kleenex with their Burgers instead of napkins?
